John Shirley

John Shirley was born in Stockport and studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music from 1963 to 1967. Further periods of study followed: in London with Maria Curcio and back in Manchester with the distinguished Polish teacher Ryzsard Bakst. A state scholarship took him to study at the Munich Academy in 1968 and whilst there he played with success to audiences in Bavaria. John's London debut took place at the Purcell room in 1971. He has twice been finalist in the National Piano Concerto competition in Dudley (1971 and 1973). He has given many recitals and concerto performances.
