Lili Holland-Fricke has been playing the cello since she was eight, and turned eighteen a couple of months ago. She has been a student at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music since 2016, and currently studies with Chris Hoyle. Lili was principal cello of the Halle Youth Orchestra in 2017, and this year has been made co-principal cello of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. With these orchestras she’s had the privilege of playing among other young musicians at venues such as the Bridgewater Hall, the Barbican, and in the Royal Albert Hall at the BBC Proms. In 2017 she won the titles of both Cheshire East Young Musician of the Year, and Uppermill Young Musician of the Year, which has given her the opportunity to play the Saint-Saëns concerto with Oldham Symphony Orchestra this July. Aside from the cello, Lili likes to paint, visit art galleries, read philosophy, go to gigs, and drink coffee. She will begin her studies at RNCM with a scholarship this September, learning with both Chris Hoyle and Hannah Roberts. Although she doesn’t have any concrete plans as to where she wants her cello to take her, Lili is looking forward to immersing herself in all types music at conservatoire, and finding out where she and her cello end up.
