By car: From the M60: Exit at Junction 22 and join the A62 Manchester Rd (signposted Oldham). Travel for just over a mile and turn right into Chamber Road. Proceed uphill for a further mile, cross Frederick Street (B6192) and the schools' main buildings are immediately on the right.

From the A627(M): Leave the motorway by the slip road signed Oldham at the roundabout take the second exit on to Chadderton Way A627. Remain on the A627 across the next roundabout to the following intersection and leave by the slip road. At the roundabout turn right to join the A62 Manchester Street. Travel for approximately half a mile and turn left into Frederick Street (B6192). Travel for a further half a mile and turn left into Chamber Road. The schools' main buildings are immediately on the right.

Soloists

David Spencer

David has studied with Sheila Ingram, Roger Coull, Malcolm Layfield, Benedict Holland and presently studies privately with Maciej Rakowski. At the Royal Northern College of Music David studied the joint internal course, gaining a BMus (Hons) in academic music and a GRNCM performance diploma. During his studies David was a finalist in the Norman George violin Scholarship and in the RNCM's prestigious Concerto Competition.

In much demand as an orchestral player, David's work has taken him from London to Inverness, playing with the: London Festival Orchestra; BBC Philharmonic; Halle; Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Ulster Orchestra; RTE Orchestra and the Northern Sinfonia. David also led the Clonter Opera Company orchestra with whom he has performed in Cheshire and the Britten Theatre, London.

As a soloist, David has performed Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole', Mozart's Haffner Serande and in March and November 2002 he performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto. He also opened the RNCM's Beethovenfest' playing Beethoven's First Sonata. In the summer of 2002 David gave recitals in Yorkshire and in the Lake District with his accompanist Robin Humphreys.

In July 2003, David took up the position of No.3, 1st violin in the RTE National Symphony of Ireland. David graduated from the RNCM with B Mus in academic music and GRNCM in Performance in 2000. He studied with Sheila Ingram, Benedict Holland and privately with Maciej Rakowski. He reached the finals of the Concerto competition and the Norman George Violin Scholarship. He freelances with the BBC Philharmonic, Northern Sinfonia, and the London Festival Orchestra and is the Violinist with the Fenice Piano Trio. The Spencer Quartet was the Quartet in residence at the Ryedale Festival. David has performed concertos by Beethoven, Mozart and Lalo and the first Sonata of Beethoven in the RNCM Beethoven fest. He is a violinist in the Northern Sinfonia.

David Played the Sibelius Violin Concerto with Oldham Symphony Orchestra in 2003.
