Clare McFarlane

This is a portrait of Clare McFarlane Clare was born in Lancashire in 1963, and was a student at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Following her success in the BBC “Young Musician of the Year” competition in 1980 she appeared regularly on TV and Radio. Clare performed as a soloist with many orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Northern Sinfonia and the Hallé (with whom she opened the Hallé Proms in 1987). Following an active career as a chamber musician, soloist and violin teacher, Clare now practices as a psychotherapist and counsellor in Salford. Married to the violinist Leland Chen, her connection with the Oldham Symphony Orchestra continues through her eldest son, Nicholas Chen (also a violinist!) who enjoys performing with the OSO. She remembers the enthusiasm and warmth of the orchestra on the occasions that she appeared as soloist with them, and how invaluable this experience was for her as a young artist.

Malcolm Arnold: Cornish Dances

Johannes Brahms: Violin Concerto in D Major Op 77

Edward Elgar: Enigma Variations
