Richard studied double bass at the RNCM. In his work as a freelance professional he has played with the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, RLPO, Camerata, Philharmonic Werkstaat (Switzerland) and other orchestral and chamber groups.

His link with the RNCM has allowed him to pursue his interest in conducting with Edward Warren and the college repertoire orchestra. In 2003 and 2004 Richard attended one of the world’s most acclaimed schools of conducting and participated in workshops with George Hirst, Rudolfo Saglimbeni, Robert Houlihan and Denise Ham. Richard directs the Oldham Symphony Orchestra, UMIST Symphony Orchestra, The Fellow’s Orchestra (University of Manchester) and has appeared as a guest conductor with the Northern Baroque Orchestra.
