OSO Conductor: Anna Beresford

Anna Beresford is a freelance conductor and cellist based in Manchester. She is experienced in conducting both orchestral and choral ensembles across the North West and is committed to teaching. She is a founding member of the Sycamore String Quartet and co-founder of upper voices choir, Voces Alta.

Anna studied conducting with Robert Guy and Mark Heron. She recently graduated from the University of Manchester with the Proctor-Gregg Prize for Conducting. Highlights from her time at university include musically directing the world stage premier of Judith Weir’s Opera ‘Armida’ and combining the forces of chamber choir Ad Solem with the MUMS Symphony Orchestra in a performance of selections from Bach’s Christmans Oratorio. She studied on the first Sorrell Women Conductors Programme with Sian Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music in 2018/19. Anna has learned from various masterclass experiences including a masterclass and concert with the BBC Philharmonic and RNCM conducting tutors in 2017 and the Aberystwyth MusicFest course with Toby Purser and James Henshaw in 2019.
