OSO Soloist: Dennis Simons
Dennis Simons, FRAM leader, solo violinist and teacher was born in Canada. His father emigrated to Canada from Finland.
Whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he won many prizes and scholarships. He formed the Alberni String Quartet and as leader toured with them exclusively in the UK, Europe and New Zealand.
Before becoming leader of the BBC Philharmonic here in Manchester, he was co-leader of the London Philharmonic. He broadcasts frequently as a concerto soloist and a sonata performer. He has taught at both Chetham's School and the RNCM and is an adjudicator in the BBC's Young Musician of the Year.
Dennis is increasingly in demand as a conductor and has directed many ensembles including the BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata. In 1991 he has UK and international engagments as both soloist and conductor.
