OSO Soloist: Michael Briggs
Michael Briggs, our soloist this evening, comes from a musical family. His father, for example, was a cornettist with many leading brass bands. Michael studied at the Northern School of Music under Cecil Kidd. He has established a firm reputation as a trumpet player in the field of Baroque music of the 17th and 18th centuries, specialising in piccolo and clarino parts such as found for instance in Bach's B minor Mass and Chirstmas Oratorio. However, he combines this specialist work with a wide range of classical and modern music. He plays the Haydn Concerto on a modern E flat instrument.
