OSO Soloist: David Howarth
David Howarth was born in Oldham in 1972. He began to study piano at the ago of eight, and in 1987 he became a student at the Royal Northern college of Music Junior School, where he studied with Renna Kellaway for three years.
In 1990 he became a full-time student at the college and following his graduation in 1994 he continued his studies for another year, where he received the Post-Graduate Diploma and the Professional performance diploma.
David's musical activities are extremely varied, having performed as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout the UK. He has performed Grieg's Piano Concerto, and in 1993 he performed Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Oldham Youth Orchestra.
During his time at college David won many prizes including the coveted Rawsthorne Prize for his performance in the 1995 RNCM recital prize, and the Peter Donohoe Award for piano playing. He was also a finalist in the Birmingham Accompanist of the Year award.
