OSO Soloist: Nicola Mills
Originally from Oldham, Nicola attended the Oldham Music Centre and was given free singing lessons. She went to The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and then went on to sing for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Dutch National Opera, The Flemish Opera and Opera Monte Carlo, aswell as various smaller companies. She has also performed around Europe on the concert platform. For the last three years she’s worked at her own initiative called ‘Opera for the People’, combining her Northern personality and bringing opera and songs to people at events, on the streets, in schools, for the homeless and anywhere that she feels she can help others with her singing. She has appeared on Belgian TV and radio and has worked in Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, the UK and New York, putting on her own show called ‘A Soprano and a Suitcase’. She writes a blog about her tales on the road — you can find this at www.asopranoasuitcaseandarucksack.com. She has no idea what direction it will all go in but she’s giving it her best shot and seeing what happens. Find out more at www.iamnicolamills.com and follow her on Facebook at Opera for the People.
